Samuel H. Sternberg

The co-creator of a breakthrough gene-editing technology CRISPR who warned against his own invention is coming to talk about one of the most challenging topics of our time – man-controlled evolution.

Gene editing is no longer the domain of sci-fi movies. Sam’s research focuses on the mechanism of DNA targeting by RNA-guided bacterial immune systems (CRISPR-Cas9) and on the development of these systems for genome engineering applications. Sam is a part of the scientific team lead by Dr. Jennifer Doudna who discovered the method. He is also the co-author of A Crack in Creation, a popular science book about the discovery, development, and applications of CRISPR-Cas9.
